Shoes: Repurpose -Don’t Buy

I am now 46 years old. When I was younger, I bought heeled pumps/sandals that I still own to this day. I found that I haven’t really worn them a lot and they are very nice shoes. Majority of them are designer shoes from Salvatore Ferragamo. I have a slight obsession with that brand. Since I am trying my very best to be more sustainable, and not get rid of perfectly good shoes, I decided to figure out a way that I can repurpose shoes so that I can continue to wear them.

I have arthritis on my left knee because of an old injury, and most of these heels are about 3 to 3.5 inches high. The oxford maroon ones on the left had a pretty obvious scuff mark in the front as well. I just can’t wear shoes that high on a regular basis. The point of buying nice shoes is to wear them, Right? So I decided that I was going to have them cut down the heel. To repurpose shoes, I went to Mt Lookout Shoe Repair, since I’ve gone to them for various reasons in the past. A question that you do need to ask is to make sure that the functionality of the shoe will not change when they do this. You can’t go too low for that reason. So make sure that it is reasonable and safe for you to do so

Needless to say, I was very happy with my experience. I also wanted to provide some ways that you can wear your pumps in a more casual way. Once again, the key to sustainability is wearability and opting to keep and wear what you have instead of buying something new. In this case, I do feel like my shoes will get a lot of wear for a long period of time, especially now that I can actually walk in them. They were all cut down an inch, and two inches are definitely more manageable for me.
