How to Style Different Types of Denim

Denim is one of my favorite things to wear. With the barrage of trends out there, I wanted to share how to style different types of denim. My hope is that you will look at the denim you have in your closet and find new love for them. They may even be ones that you thought weren’t on trend or haven’t worn for a long time. The key to being more sustainable is to wear the items that you already own. Part of the fun in fashion is to find creative ways to keep wearing those items. The denim that I will be featuring are items that I’ve had in my closet for a while. Some of them are bought secondhand. Others I’ve had for more than 10 years. So, overall, a more sustainable approach is to buy pieces that will stand the test of time. Denim is one of those clothing styles, I believe, that can be worn for the long haul.

Let’s Talk Sustainability

The production of denim has some major effects on the environment. First, it requires a considerable amount of water to produce the cotton that goes into denim. Synthetic dyes used to color denim has a negative environmental impact. Metals used for denim isn’t recyclable. Production of cheap denim can mean a non-equitable living wage and working conditions for factory workers. This is just to name a few. I like to think about the impact that fashion has on the environment and people, because I don’t want to add to the problem. This is the reason why I keep my denim for a long period of time and don’t switch them out or buy something new very often.
