Slieve League: A Donegal County Natural Gem

Have you ever heard of Slieve League? It seems to me that every time people talk about where they want to go in Ireland, they talk about going to the Cliffs of Moher. I, personally, wanted to go there as well. So when someone told me that they really wanted to go to Slieve League, I was like, “Slieve what?” I have never even heard of it. I’m the type of person that does a lot of research when I travel, which is why I was so surprised that I’ve never heard of it. I’m sure it was only an oversight on my part. So I thought, why not. Let me just go there. I was so happy that someone brought it up, because it really is quite stunning.

Here are some things to think about when you take a trip to Slieve League

The entrance turn is not very easy to see. The sign is literally on the side of the building. If you’re following a GPS, it is very easy to miss the turn. When you get to the actual town, just make sure you’re looking at the buildings

Once you get there, some people would drive all the way up the windy roads. I, personally, didn’t want to do that because the roads are quite narrow. We got there early enough and found plenty of parking. But it goes very quickly

I just really enjoyed the view on the way up. But the walk isn’t just a breeze so make sure you’re well hydrated and wear good shoes

There are so many beautiful terrain to see that it’s worth every step you make to the top

Make sure that you do go to the bathroom before you head up. The bathroom is strictly at the bottom. Just make sure that you’re aware of your needs.

There were some interesting structures on the way up that you can check out. I was looking online and I couldn’t figure out what it actually is or what it means, unfortunately. So if any of you guys can tell me, please leave it on the comments. But I just thought it was cool.

The best advice I can give is take your time. There is so much beauty to see and the pictures don’t do it enough justice. We went in August so make sure that you dress in layers. It is a bit cool, but it definitely warms up throughout the day. I am always really cold so I may look like a bit over dressed.

The one thing that I truly love about Ireland is how natural everything seems. I love being able to see animals just grazing and being themselves. It just makes me feel like there is something untapped about Ireland and I feel like they make a conscious effort to keep it that way.

On the flip side of that, it is touristy enough that you’ll run into a little shop close to the top. They sell ice cream too, which I will never pass up!

The beauty of Slieve League is undeniable. You have to simply take it in. You can also get to a higher vantage point, but it isn’t easy. Make sure that you make the right decision about what you can endure physically. Safety first. Even if you don’t get that high, it is still quite stunning. I have a pretty bad left knee (arthritis and all) so I never made it to the very top. This was a safe height for me to be and it is still gorgeous!

I hope that this would inspire you to consider going here. In my opinion, it is one of the best kept secrets in Ireland.

My hope is that this blog provide my readers with some information about how to be more ethical in both beauty and fashion choices.
